I don't know how many times someone asked me to write a poem about them. I found that I enjoyed doing it, and thought of it as if painting a portrait in words. So I call these portrait poems. They are all portraits of people I've known to some degree. In some cases I would get a little information about someone, whatever I felt like asking, then would sit and write something. Sometimes it was just for fun, or sometimes to cheer someone up. We all need that sometimes...
