When I was 15 I joined a Hare Krishna travelling bus. Since then life has been interesting in every sense. I've done my time as a religious fanatic, and have spent several years living in monasteries and ashrams in various places, including a stint done during a hiatus in my professional life. I taught myself Sanskrit when I was 18, spent time as a teacher in a rural school in Cochecton, NY, and taught myself programming starting with a handheld computer one of my Krishna friends wanted to do astrology charts with.
I lived in Vrindavan, India for about 18 months. I lost some weight then - rural India by itself is enough to change you, and there is a kind of spiritual intensity about holy places like Vrindavan that tends to turn you inside out and make you appreciate what we don't know about this world we live in. And that's not a current picture - it was taken 2 years ago when I was down to 130 lbs. That was too thin! |
